Proposed by the Hungarian delegation, 16th of October was adopted as World Food Day by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) in 1979. World Food Day is designed to raise awareness of governments and the general public to address food issues affecting millions globally. To contribute to this initiative, the Hungarian Food Bank Association has launched a Donation Convoy every year since 2006 to raise awareness about hunger and poverty.

On the occasion of World Food Day a donation convoy, loaded with food donations worth one hundred million forints, passed through the historic downtown of Budapest.

A convoy of 20 trucks organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Hungarian Food Bank Association transported more than 60,000 kilos of product, which was offered by food producers and distributors.

Gyermelyi has been a participant and supporter of the charity program since the beginning, to which it contributed several tons of food again this year.
